Youth Fishing League
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does a typical session look like?
Each session is 2 hours long. Each week may vary.
The first week, equipment is handed out with a lesson on how to use it, safety rules and fishing boundaries are reviewed, and we fish! Second week we try to arrange a guest speaker in for a brief lesson in their area of expertise (This can range from a lure maker to a conservation officer) and then we fish! Third week we fish! Fourth week is championship day and we fish using the skills we've learned to crown a winner; individual and team photos are taken with their trophies.
2. Does a guardian have to stay for the sessions?
Yes. They do not have to participate, but many do! They are an extra set of eyes for safety, some keep score with their small group, if they have a valid fishing license, they can help the kids handle the fish.
3. How much is it?
Our 2024 registration fee was $250.
4. What do they get?
Each participant is fully equipped with everything they need and more! Hat, jersey, polarized glasses, tackle box, lures, rod/reel, terminal tackle, backpack, digital photos, and trophy/medal.
5. What are the ages that can participate?
Due to popular demand we are looking to expand our leagues into two age groups 5-10 & 11-16.
6. Do I have to touch a worm or fish?
No, but our goal is by championship day you will feel comfortable and confident to do so!
7. What happens after the age of 16? Can they still participate?
Absolutely! We have many returning participants comeback to volunteer for their high school community hours and then eventually coach a team!
8. Do you offer sponsorship?
Yes, we are always looking for like minded companies who share in our vision getting families outdoor in nature. Kids are the future and if we can get them hooked on fishing, they will want to protect what they love and that includes our natural environment.
9. Do they have to have fishing knowledge or experience?
No. This program is for all levels!
10. Is there a discount for siblings?
Currently no, but this is something we are reviewing for 2025 as we have many siblings join.
11. Can we get a discount if we bring our own equipment?
We are in the process of creating 3 options.
1. bring your own rod/reel
2. Choose the standard package with the rod/reel combo that best supports your skill level
3. Upgrade your rod/reel with options from our sponsors.
